There are
financial incentives:
- Get paid for every kWh (unit) of electricity you generate
(currently for most domestic properties this is at a rate of 43.3p/kWh (you buy by March 2012)
- Get paid for exporting excess electricity to the grid
(currently most utility companies assume you export 50% of generated electricity and pay 3p/kWh for this electricity)
- Reduce your electricity
bills (solar installations can reduce your bills by up to £250 a year)
Frequently a homes Feed-in Tariff income will offset their electricity
bill and, depending on the household consumption, larger systems can offset all or part of the gas or oil bill as well.
Increasing evidence from
countries with established schemes similar to the UK FIT scheme (such as certain states in the USA and Germany) show that
properties with solar installations sell quicker than those without and at times for a small amount more than other similar
homes as a result.
